Welcome to the Game Swim is a free inclusive swim program focusing on water safety, confidence and enjoyment.

Their specialised program is designed to include and support people from refugee and migrant backgrounds with disabilities, autism and additional support needs to increase their physical activity levels, make social connections and develop water safety skills.

Duration: 10 week program
Days: Fridays
Dates: July 14th - September 15th 2023
Times: 30 min session slots allocated between 4.30pm and 7.30pm
Location: Dandenong Oasis, Heatherton Rd &, Cleeland St, Dandenong VIC 3175
Cost: Free to eligible participants
Class size: Small Group Sessions max 3 students per class (needs based, various allocated times).

Program provides:

Small Group Sessions max 3 students per class
30 min session slots allocated between 4.30pm and 7.30 pm
Classes allocated based on individual support needs, swimming/water ability/experience, confidence, availability, eligibility etc
Trauma-informed/healing-centred approach
Parents/support workers encouraged to enter the water and actively support participation as required.
Parents and siblings of Welcome to the Game Participants can also be supported to access mainstream classes for a kick-start period at the centre in order to promote water safety skills and confidence and sustained participation in healthy active water-based recreation for the whole family.
End of program graduation event promoting social and community participation, peer to peer networking, cooperative play and belonging.

Eligibility requirements:

1) Age 5-25
2) Born overseas or have a parent born overseas or speak a language other than English at home
3) Identify with having a disability/autism/additional support needs

*formal diagnosis not required
