Adaptive snowsports guide

Adaptive snowsports guides who have been trained by Disabled Wintersport Australia (DWA) are provided to members on all members camps and can be requested by any member who is traveling to our alpine resorts and requires the extra assistance.

Adaptive snowsport guides can assist you with getting safely around the mountain, using your equipment, loading and unloading the lifts and communicating with instructors, lift attendants and other mountain staff. They can guide vision impaired skiers and snowboarders down a run, help a sit-skier, snowboarder or stand-up skier turn, assist on lessons so you get the most out of your time and have a chat on the chairlift.

Adaptive snowsport guides are not instructors, so cannot teach you how to ski or snowboard. If you would like to learn how to ski or snowboard, or improve your skiing or snowboarding, please book a private adaptive lesson through the snowsport school.

Adaptive equipment

An important factor that allows some people with a disabilities access to the alpine environment and ski slopes is specialised adaptive equipment. This is equipment that has been designed to maximise the mobility of the skier/rider.

Innovations such as sit-skis and outriggers allow people with disabilities the opportunity of enjoying Australia's winter playgrounds.
