Melbourne Fringe Festival has begun!
We are so excited that Melbourne Fringe Festival has begun! The Festival program is unlike anything you've seen before. It’s happening from 12 – 29 November.
We have over 250 events for you, created by artists who have dreamt up, worked and reworked art in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. We have built a platform for you to enjoy this work, and as well as digital, there's work you can take offline and outdoors. Our program is evolving, so keep an eye on your inbox for more exciting shows going on sale in the next few weeks. Get ready for 18 days of non-stop art, online, analogue, in your home and on the streets.
The festival is mostly through our Digital Fringe platform but there are a number of socially distanced and Covid-19 safe one on one events and outdoor events. Our Digital Fringe platform has a digital foyer and chat function where you can mingle, just like IRL.
This year we have heaps shows by Deaf and disabled artists – check them out in our Disability and Deaf arts Guide to Fringe. There’s satirical comedy, a writing showcase, poetry told in Auslan, a 12 hour Animal Crossing game show, mental health advocacy, a spoken word showcase and much more.
We also have lots of accessible shows - with Auslan interpreted shows, and captioned shows, audio described shows, sensory friendly performances and also some relaxed performances. We also allow for some watch on demand shows for people who can’t watch a show in one sitting. While many shows are at night, there are a range of shows across the day too.
Our signature program features Deadly Fringe visual art exhibitions, a mass contemporary dance event, a Taiwanese showcase, and Dial an Artist – where you can call an artist to solve a problem. Dial an Artist has two Auslan options. We’ve also got a jam packed XS kid’s program featuring a rain walk, a song writing workshop for people under 10 and over 60, and a disco led by Rawcus. There are also a range of Club Fringe events that are Auslan interpreted.
