Autism Awareness Day Session

Come and hear from AFL, Gymnastics and other organisations about their autism-specific programs!
We are hosting a webinar on Thursday the 1st of April (as Friday 2nd April is Good Friday) to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day. This webinar will include presentations from organisations who have received funding from SRV to share their success, challenges and their future plans.
World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognized day on the 2nd of April every year, encouraging Member States of the United Nations to take measures to raise awareness about people with autistic spectrum disorders including autism and Asperger syndrome around the world. World Autism Awareness Day celebrates the resilience of those affected by the disorder and allows us to understand how we can build our capacity to include people with autism.
The 2017 Parliamentary Inquiry into Services for People with Autism Spectrum Disorder identified that participation in community, sporting and cultural activities are vital for people with autism. The inquiry found inclusion contributes to the prevention of social isolation and discrimination while increasing social capacity, health and wellbeing. SRR were allocated $600,000 to run communities of practice, and fund organisations to increase their capacity and understanding of autism spectrum disorders in the context of sport and recreation
