Sale Botanic Gardens Accessible Walk - Walking Maps

Sale Botanic Gardens are home to beautiful flora, lawns, walking and rolling paths, picnic areas, sculptures, a sensory garden, elm forest, a playground and cultural facilities.

How accessible is the path?
This walk is accessible to everyone by foot, in a wheelchair or using other mobility aids. Accessible map signs are provided at most entrances and within the gardens. Direction signs include time taken. Paths vary from 1.2 meters to 2 meters wide. Surfaces are either sealed or compacted granitic sand. Lips can be present between surfaces. No steps are encountered on the walk as mapped.

The upper area of the gardens is generally flat. Lower areas slope mildly towards the lake below. Some manual wheelchair users may require assistance.

Granitic sand paths tend to camber toward the edges with a flatter center. Scoop drains line main paths. There are drop offs to water and the lake embankment. There are branches overhead.

There is room for side-by-side travel, turning and passing with wheelchairs. There are alternative vehicle access points for shorter or downhill only routes. Mobile phone coverage is good.

Rest areas
The area is very well maintained. Seating with back and armrests is available, but shallow scoop drains may have to be crossed. There is tree shade and accessible built shelter. Accessible BBQs, shelters and roll under picnic tables connected to the path are available. Accessible lake viewing platforms are installed.

Public artworks and interpretive signs are on display. There is an open-air sound stage. The playground has rubberised paths to some equipment and there is a sealed, kerbless splash play area.

Accessible drinking fountains are available. Accessible toilets are provided.
Dogs must be leashed. Cyclists may share some paths. Lower paths can be subject to flooding.

Public transport
Bus No. 1 stops on Guthridge Parade at the Aquatic Complex 120 meters away via a sealed, wide shared path. There is a bus stop sign.

Parking
There is dedicated accessible parking with protected side zones at the main entrance. This parking is immediately connected to the path. The surface is sealed and smooth on a slight slope with a ramp through the kerb. Note when rear loading there is shallow guttering below the parking spaces.
