The Modified Rugby Program (MRP) started in 2014 through the GingerCloud Foundation. It gives children and young people with learning and perceptual disabilities the chance to play rugby in a safe and welcoming environment.
The game is played in a touch-only format. This makes it easier for more people to join in, learn new skills, and have fun.
The GingerCloud Foundation has created coaching and leadership programs to help rugby clubs run the MRP. These programs help players feel safe, included, and supported.
In 2016, Rugby Australia recognised the MRP as an official form of rugby. Since then, the program has grown and is now available in Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory, and Victoria.
Brimbank is proud to be home to Victoria’s first Modified Rugby Program hub at the Brimbank Bucks Rugby Club. The program gives more local children and young people the chance to play sport, build confidence, and make new friends.
Megan Elliott, Co-Founder and Managing Director of the GingerCloud Foundation, said:
“The program embodies what Rugby is all about: passion, determination, commitment and above all, community.”
